Rememberance Day Assembly

I believe WO’s remembrance day assembly is always very well done. The drama students and volunteers always do a great job reading, acting and the slide shows are always great as well. I have always noticed how seriously our peers actually take this assembly, which is how it should be. Rememberance day is something that we should remember more than one day out of the year, and it’s actually a huge matter.
I am in Appassionata, and we sang at the  Rememberance day assembly. If you can recall, there was one photo that had a few children that were naked and running away while being burned. That was probably one of the most shocking photos I have ever seen, and I was brutally disturbed by it.
Since there were 2 assemblies, we sang at both.
First, the grade 9s and 12s came down. The assembly went well, and kids were very respectful and paid attention. They did not talk very much, which was perfect. When this photo came on, some looked shocked but said nothing.
When the grade 10s and 11s came, the chatter would not stop. Ms. Rodger came up to introduce the assembly, and when she got up, a boy whistled at her. Disrespectful? Yes. Funny? No.
When this photo came up, a row of grade 10 boys in the front all started laughing. I’m assuming because the children were naked. Hilarious.
But then a photo came up of a boy who was severely burnt and had his arm amputated.

“That kid’s fucking mangled.”

I heard this.. and I wanted to slap this kid across the face. The purpose of this assembly was to show you how BAD the war is. Not to laugh and make fun of the children who have been through trauma and death and disease.

At least you impressed your friends.
I mean, maybe the grade 9s are too scared to talk, and the grade 12s KNOW not to talk….. But grade 10s saw it last year. Clearly you do not understand what the assembly was about.

Grow the hell up
